Sink Care

Always refer to the instruction sheet supplied with your individual sink, should this not be to hand the following general advice is offered by Premier Kitchens & Bedrooms.

Tap Care

General product care and cleaning instructions
Always wipe the sink down with soapy water and a cloth. This will remove everyday stains from your sink.
  • In hard water areas limescale deposits can build up on the sink over a period of time. The limescale can become strongly coloured by such foods as coffee and red wine. To remove limescale we recommend the use of Astraclean sink cleaner.
  • If stains become ingrained in the bowl(s), a 30-minute soak using diluted bleach or an overnight soak of diluted biological washing powder (1 part cleaning agent to 10 parts water) should remove the marks easily. Rinse the sink with water afterwards.
  • We recommend the use of baskets and chopping boards to reduce the risk of accidental damage.
  • You must not pour strong chemicals down the sink such as bleach, ammonia, caustic soda, paint stripper and sterilizing solutions. If this should happen accidentally, wipe the spill away with a dry cloth, then rinse with plenty of water.
  • Do not use plastic washing up bowls, as particles of grit which may be impregnated in the bowl could scratch the surface of the sink, or produce a grinding action between the plastic bowl and the sink surface.
  • Do not chop food directly on the surface of the sink; wooden chopping boards are available for this purpose.
  • Leaving neat bleach in sink bowls can cause damage to all sinks even stainless steel. If neat bleach should come into contact with the sink, rinse thoroughly with warm soapy water.
  • Avoid dropping sharp objects into the sink, as this may scratch or damage the surface.

Stainless Steel Sinks
Sinks offer long lasting corrosion resistance and will withstand all common household acids and detergents. Our range features two stunning finishes, Classic Polished Steel and Brushed Steel - designed to complement modern appliance finishes.
Stainless steel sinks are made from 18/10 - chrome nickel steel, which comprises 18% chromium and 10% nickel. It is extremely hard wearing however; nevertheless, certain points should be taken into consideration during use and cleaning.

Routine care
  • Please do not use your sink as a chopping board.
  • Please avoid dropping sharp and heavy objects into the sink as such objects can scratch or damage the surface.
  • Avoid the use of plastic wash bowls, as particles of grit that may be impregnated in the bowl could scratch the surface of your sink.
  • Leaving bleach to soak in sink bowls causes damage to all sinks even Stainless Steel. If bleach should come in contact with your sink, rinse thoroughly with warm soapy water.

Cleaning
Always wipe your sink down with warm soapy water and a cloth to remove everyday stains. More abrasive cleaners such as scouring pads should not be used. In hard water areas, lime scale deposits can build up on the sink over a period of time. The lime scale can become strongly coloured by such foods as coffee and red wine. To remove lime scale we recommend the use of mild acids such as lemon juice or vinegar. If stains become ingrained in the bowls, a 30-minute soak using diluted bleach or diluted biological washing powder (one part cleaning agent to ten parts water) should remove the marks easily. Rinse the sink with water afterwards. Astraclean sink cleaner can also be used on stainless steel sinks.

Stainless Steel (Matt Finish)
For general cleaning and removing marks a liquid cleaner such as Bar Keepers Friend with a soft damp cloth must be used.

Stainless Steel (Polished Finish)
For general cleaning and removing marks a Stainless Steel cleaner with a soft damp cloth must be used.

Things to avoid
The following substances should not be allowed to come into contact with a stainless steel surface: mortar, cement, plaster, concrete, tile cement, grout, undiluted bleach, acids, silver dip, photographic fluids.
Do not pour strong chemicals down your sink such as bleach, ammonia, caustic soda, paint stripper, brush cleaners or sterilising solutions. If this should occur accidentally, wipe the spill away immediately with a dry cloth, then rinse with plenty of water.

Tap Cleaning

Scratch marks
Stainless steel sinks can and will scratch during normal use. However, the appearance of scratches can be made less noticeable using a proprietary stainless steel cleaner. Also, as the sink ages, the scratches will gradually become less noticeable.

Heat
Excessive heat or flames applied to stainless steel will turn it blue or gold. This is an irreversible reaction, although chrome or stainless steel polishes e.g. ‘Solvo Autosol’ can effect some improvement.

Brown spots or rust marks
Due to the composition of the sinks as described above, they are incapable of rusting. However, should the surface of the sink be harbouring particles of, for example, plumbers swarf or steel wool pads, then it can give the appearance of having rusted. Water bourne particles should be removed using a proprietary stainless steel cleaner, followed by thorough rinsing and drying with a soft cloth. If these particles are allowed to stand for any length of time it is possible for pitting to take place.

Ceramic Sinks
Ceramic Sinks are individually hand-crafted and finished in fireclay. Cool and silky to touch, they have a hard non-porous surface giving excellent resistance to all commonly used chemicals and detergents and are extremely resistant to heat.

Routine care
• Please do not use your sink as a chopping board.
• Please avoid dropping sharp and heavy objects into the sink as such objects can scratch or damage the surface.

Cleaning
We recommend the use of a soft sponge or cloth with a mild abrasive for everyday cleaning of your sink. Aggressive cleaning is not required due to the nature of the material and its durable glazed surface which is highly resistant to scratches and stains, and is resistant to acids and alkalis.
For general cleaning and removing marks a mild cream cleaner and non-metallic scouring pad must be used. China rubbers will clear most marks; these must be used with washing up liquid.

Ceramic Sink Care

Granite Rok® Sinks
Granite ROK® sinks are made from the most advanced material used in the manufacture of kitchen sinks. They are designed to combine hard working performance with stunning good looks and natural textures of granite. With real quartz silica particles and a textured appearance Rok® sinks are available in a variety of natural colours.
ROK® Metallic is a unique granite material whereby metallic effect particles are added during the manufacturing process. The resulting sink has striking good looks and complements contemporary kitchen environments, with all the material benefits of ROK®.

Routine care
• Please do not use your sink as a chopping board.
• Please avoid dropping sharp and heavy objects into the sink as such objects can scratch or damage the surface.
• Hot Casserole dishes or saucepans should not be placed in an Astracast Granite Rok® sink if over 536° F (280° C).

Cleaning
The first action to maintain the surface and appearance of any Astracast sink is to thoroughly rinse with plenty of water. Daily cleaning may be done with a non-abrasive cleaner (for example Softscrub (with or without bleach), Bar Keepers Friend, or baking soda).
For stains: use any of the previously mentioned cleaners along with a soft scouring pad (for example Scotch-Brite Soft Scour). Rinse well. For stubborn stains / calcium deposits: (a white ring around the bottom of your sink), use Astraclean or a comparable product. If stains become ingrained in the bowls, an overnight soak using diluted bleach (10:1) will help remove stains. Rinse well.

Things to avoid
Use of strong chemicals, abrasive powders and steel wool pads will degrade the surface, and make the sink more susceptible to stains.

Taps
Astracast taps come with the following guarantees:
  • Chrome taps – 5 year guarantee on finish
  • Stainless Steel taps – Lifetime guarantee on finish.
Your taps have ceramic disks inside and do not need to be forced closed. In addition to this, you should be aware that if your taps are coloured, then extra care should be taken not to damage them during normal use or cleaning. Coloured taps can be more susceptible to knocks and scratches than chrome taps.

Cleaning
Taps should be cleaned with a mild liquid detergent or soap and water and dried with a soft cloth. Use of abrasive cleaning agents may scratch or damage the tap and will invalidate the warranty.
