Is Your Kitchen Summer Ready?

As summer is finally upon us it’s time to make sure your kitchen meets the demand that warm weather and lighter, longer evenings bring. While we hope you’ll be spending your summer under blissful blue skies and dining alfresco we understand the Great British summer is one of the most unpredictable seasons of the year. With the weather set to be as temperamental as ever, follow our guide to welcoming summer into the heart of the home so you can still enjoy this long awaited time of year whatever the weather!

Boost Natural Light

Make the most of the natural light summer brings and maximise the effect within your kitchen. The use of glass and shiny surfaces will make all the difference. High Gloss units with reflective surfaces encourage light to bounce around the room and give the impression of a larger space.

Dining in your kitchen doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the alfresco experience, encourage light and fresh air inside by opening up patio doors and windows. Exchange heavy curtains and blinds for thinner, more delicate window and door dressings allowing as much light as possible to fill the room during the day. When the evening draws to a close why not consider the use of cleverly placed candles or loosely hung fairy lights to create a relaxed, chilled and inviting atmosphere.

Create that Summer Vibe

Dust off the spring cobwebs and transform the interior of your kitchen with some carefully considered décor. Illuminate the room by keeping wall and cabinet colours light and warm, use pale yellows, greens, blues and shades of white to really set the mood. Enhance that summer feel by removing any dark furnishings and accessorize your space with bright colours or floral patterns. Think about replacing dinnerware and glasses with outdoor friendly alternatives keeping colours bright and display them rather than hiding them away in cupboards.

Bring the Outdoors In

Year on year we eagerly await the nostalgic aroma of fresh cut grass and long for the days where we can enjoy our garden to the maximum. Celebrating the summer evenings with friends, family and a tasty BBQ is a great way to make the most of your outdoor space but as the British weather never fails to disappoint, don’t let rainy downpours and dull skies ruin your weekend plans. Simply add a touch of greenery to your kitchen and bring the outdoors in, giving your guests an alternative but just as pleasant experience.
A vivid assortment of plant and flowers around the kitchen can quickly transform the ambience of your room. If you have a windowsill with good natural light then you could even try your hand at your very own herb garden. Not only are they decorative but they’ll make a lovely addition to any summer meal or drink!
